Ji Chang Wook joined the Jiangsu TV New Year Countdown Concert on 31 December, where he performed the Korean version of Jay Chou’s classic song “Starry Mood” that was recorded in his first Chinese EP “Be With You”, and also did the countdown to the new year with everyone; he also teamed up with Sha Bao Liang to perform the classic song “An Xiang (暗香)”, and amazed the audience with his accurate Chinese pronunciation.

Due to issues with timing, Ji Chang Wook’s rehearsal for the new year concert was forced to be scheduled at about 1am or 2am in the morning. Faced with the pressure of standing on stage for the midnight countdown at the new year concert for the first time, Ji Chang Wook set aside his tiredness from the flight and worked hard to complete the rehearsal, repeatedly discussing with the director and staff about the stage presentation and effects so as to present the best performance to all the audience, thereby earning praise from the director.
On this new year eve, Ji Chang Wook not only performed the Korean version of “Starry Night” that was included in his first Chinese EP, he also worked with veteran singer Sha Bao Liang to take on the highly challenging song “An Xiang”. Regarding the collaboration, Sha Bao Liang said he was very honoured and happy to be able to work with a popular idol from Korea, and he was moved by Ji Chang Wook’s hard work and diligence. Ji Chang Wook said he was very thankful for the opportunity to work with teacher Sha Bao Liang and hopes to more about music from him, and he will continuously present surprises to everyone.
Fell in love with Chinese songs while studying at breaks during filming; will prepare surprises for his Beijing concert
For the new year countdown concert and his upcoming Beijing concert, Ji Chang Wook specially brought his music coach and Chinese language teacher from Korea to the film set in China. He would learn how to sing Chinese songs at breaks in between filming, and would often practise continuously even after work at night. It is very tiring, but his hard work at studying allowed him to greatly improve on his Chinese and singing ability within a short period of time.
Ji Chang Wook said that because he has been practising non-stop, he has grown to love the Chinese language and Chinese songs even more, and hopes there will be more opportunities to perform for everyone. Ji Chang Wook’s Beijing concert will reportedly be held at the Beijing Exhibition Center on 23 January. He has put in a lot of effort for his fans, and given that Ji Chang Wook loves Chinese songs so much, who knows what surprises he has in store for everyone besides performing Chinese songs.
