In advance of the premiere of the new SBS drama “Suspicious Partner”, Ji Chang Wook sat down for a short interview about his upcoming romantic comedy. He is expected to show great chemistry with his partner Nam Ji Hyun and present another side of him as a “king of romantic comedy” in his turn as the unapproachable and intelligent prosecutor Noh Ji Wook this time. “I can’t sleep because I want to film,” he said, revealing his excitement for his new role.

For the sake of viewers who are waiting for the premiere of “Suspicious Partner” on 10 May, the production team revealed an interview they had with Ji Chang Wook.

A photo shoot for the drama was held recently on 11th April at a studio in Seoul’s Nonhyeon-dong. The main cast Ji Chang Wook, Nam Ji Hyun, Choi Tae Joon, and Nara were already displaying their teamwork and completed the photo shoot professionally. Thanks to that, the atmosphere at the studio was a jovial one and sounds of laughter could be heard from the cast and the production staff.

In the interview that was held mid-way during the photo shoot, Ji Chang Wook spoke about the recent photos of him carrying the scripts in his hand while at the airport. He said, “If I carry the scripts around, I will keep looking at them whenever I have spare time, so I always try to carry them around with me.” He continued, “Because it is a romantic comedy this time, I’m also looking forward to it and very curious myself. The script is very interesting, and the actors are also close to one another so I think we will be able to have fun filming.”

Speaking about his character Noh Ji Wook, he said, “He is a very stubborn person because he has his own philosophy about his own job and life. Being stubborn means he has his own unique style, so viewers may find him attractive when they see him.”

He also spoke about his chemistry with actress Nam Ji Hyun, “In the drama, the characters of Noh Ji Wook and Bong Hee match very well. Although they are very contrasting characters, I think we will be able to show a very lovable and interesting chemistry.”

Q. You were recently photographed carrying your scripts at the airport. You didn’t forget to promote “Suspicious Partner” at your Hong Kong fan meeting either. Fans who saw this noted your affection for the drama “Suspicious Partner”. 

A. If I carry the scripts around, I will keep looking at them whenever I have spare time, so I always try to carry them around with me. Because it is a romantic comedy this time, I’m also looking forward to it and very curious myself. The script is very interesting, and the actors are also close to one another so I think we will be able to have fun filming. In particular, I had a photo shoot with Ji Hyun sshi for the poster today and our chemistry matched well.

Q. In the drama, you play the role of Noh Ji Wook, “an intelligent tsundere prosecutor who is unapproachable and prickly”. What do you think is the biggest charm of Noh Ji Wook? 

A. Noh Ji Wook is a very stubborn person because he has his own philosophy about his own job and life. Being stubborn means he has his own unique style, so when viewers may find him attractive when they see him. He may seem prickly and unfriendly on the outside, but there is also a delicate and sentimental side of him inside. So the two opposite sides to him give him contrasting appeals.

Q. You once presented an award with Nam Ji Hyun sshi at the Seoul Music Awards, and you also starred with her in the SBS drama “Warrior Baek Dong Soo”. You are meeting her again in “Suspicious Partner”; what kind of “partner” will she be?

A. She will be a suspicious partner (laughs). I even go to the same hair salon as Ji Hyun sshi. We share the same hair stylist so I’ve heard a lot about her on usual days, that’s why she feels very familiar. Actually, Ji Hyun sshi played a child role in the drama “Warrior Baek Dong Soo” while I played an adult so we weren’t able to meet, but since we get to work directly as partners this time, I think it will be very interesting. First of all, I already found it very fun just meeting her today.

Q. There are many fans online who are looking forward to your chemistry with Nam Ji Hyun.

A. The comments seem to be along the lines of “They have similar vibes” and “They look alike”, and I think we will have a unique chemistry of our own. In particular, the characters of Noh Ji Wook and Bong Hee match very well in the drama. Although they are very contrasting characters, I think we will be able to show a very lovable and interesting chemistry.

Q. Lastly, please tell us your thoughts about the drama “Suspicious Partner”. 

A. I think we will be able to film this drama very enjoyably. I’m very excited and looking forward to it…I can’t sleep because I want to film (laughs). I think there will be endless laughter at the film set…I’m really looking forward to it.
