[Info] “Suspicious Partner” Japan DVD box set release announcement

Ji Chang Wook’s Japan agency Rubeus has announced the estimated release dates for the Japanese DVD box set editions of “Suspicious Partner” (retitled “Doubtful Partner ~Destiny Lovers~”).  A two-stage release is planned, with lots of extra goodies, colour photobooks, behind-scenes footage, and a video interview with Ji Chang Wook!

DVD BOX SET 1 (estimated release date 28 March 2018)
Drama Episodes 1-10 (5 discs); spoken Korean with Japanese subtitles; Region 2 only
Price: 17,500 ¥ (taxes, shipping and currency conversion charges TBD)
Extras include: Colour booklet; 2 postcards; additional 18 minutes of behind-scenes footage

DVD BOX SET 2 (estimated release date 30 April 2018)
Drama Episodes 11-20 (5 discs); spoken Korean with Japanese subtitles; Region 2 only

Extras include: Colour booklet; 3 postcards; additional 55 minutes of behind-scenes footage and interview with Ji Chang Wook

Note:  These DVD sets are not a Director’s Cut version (with cast and crew commentary); nor will they have English subtitles.  Region 2 includes Japan, Europe, South Africa, Greenland and the Middle East (including Egypt); other countries will require a region-free DVD player.

  1. It is a pity that the DVD of Suspicious partner are not with English subtitiles which I am very surprised. Is the English speaking market is larger that Japanese? Why the DVD cannot be made into English as well, like what they did for Jiscovery?

    • Doesn’t matter “which market is larger.” Due to severe copyright restrictions in Japan, it is unheard of for Japanese DVD production companies to re-market Korean dramas with both Japanese and English subtitles therein. Even though the DVDs will be available for international sales, the primary market is for the Japanese consumer only.

      Korean copyright laws are different when it comes to their media production. The “Jiscovery” DVD was produced by a Korean entity; said production company could then dictate which languages to be included for subtitles. Same with the Director’s Cut DVDs of “Suspicious Partner” which will be produced in Korea; the production company has included English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese subs when the box set is to be released sometime in the latter part of 2018.
