UPDATE 11 July: KBS 2TV and Lifetime A&E have both posted a notice that the drama’s English title will be updated to “If You Wish Upon Me.” We have corrected this report and will use that title going forward.
On 11 July, production company Climax Studio unveiled the first still of actor Ji Chang Wook, who has transformed into ‘broken adult child’ Yoon Gyeo Re for KBS 2TV’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “If You Wish Upon Me” (directed by Kim Yong Wan, written by Jo Ryeong Soo).
“If You Wish Upon Me” is a healing drama in which a precarious young man who is driven to the end of his life is healed himself by listening to people’s last wishes at a hospice hospital. The motif was obtained from a real foundation in the Netherlands that grants the last wish of terminal cancer patients.
In the drama, Ji Chang Wook takes on the role of Yoon Gyeo Re, who is barely holding on to the present without a will for life. Yoon Gyeo Re is a ‘broken adult child’ who has developed a habit of inflicting pain with tattoos all over his body. In particular, he is a person who has achieved a ‘three combo’ from nursery schools, juvenile centers and prisons, raising curiosity about the Yoon Gyeo Re character that Ji Chang Wook will draw with his new acting transformation.
In the released photo, Ji Chang Wook has transformed into Yoon Gyeo Re himself, and boasts a perfect synchronization with the character. The expression full of rebelliousness and both arms full of tattoos clearly reveal Yoon Gyeo Re’s character without an attachment to the present world.
In addition, while Ji Chang Wook creates tension with his eyes that do not feel a single desire for life, it stimulates curiosity about what Yoon Gyeo Re will look like.
“Ji Chang Wook depicts his character with perfect visuals, speech, and facial expressions,” said the production team of “If You Wish Upon Me.” “Please pay attention to what happened to Yoon Gyeo Re going to nursery school, through juvenile detention, prison, and his hard life. In particular, we ask for a lot of attention and love for ‘If You Wish Upon Me’ along with the expectation for the character of Yoon Gyeo Re portrayed by Ji Chang Wook.”
KBS 2TV’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “If You Wish Upon Me” starring Ji Chang Wook, will air for the first time in August, and will also air on Korea’s A&E Lifetime Channel.
