Korean drama ‘Empress Ki’ has achieved new heights in Taiwan in its viewership ratings, and Ji Chang Wook, who played the Yuan emperor in the drama, is also seeing a similar rise in his market value. Days ago, Ji Chang Wook drew attention when he came to Taiwan to film the popular Korean variety show ‘Running Man’, and he will be returning to Taiwan again on the 30th for a fan meeting. In an interview with this magazine before his visit to Taiwan, Ji Chang Wook speaks light-heartedly about his ideal girlfriend, saying, “I dream to find a girlfriend who will walk with me on this path of an actor!”

[Interview] eNews 24 – The blessed gift of the name Ji Chang Wook

The power of a character can be scary. It still feels awkward looking at Ta Hwan stripped of his royal robes. So strong is the impression he has made as that character.

With the airing of the 51st episode, the 6-month-long run of the MBC Mon-Tues drama “Empress Ki” finally drew to a close. Ji Chang Wook, who showed the Yuan Emperor Ta Hwan’s affectionate and heartbreaking love for Seung Nyang in the drama, commanded a great presence right till the end as the show concluded with a sad ending.

The past 6 months was no easy journey for Ji Chang Wook either. Taking into account the filming period in addition to the 6 months, he had been immersed in the show for a whole 9 months. To put things differently, “Empress Ki” can be considered as the drama that showed the growth of Ji Chang Wook.

This makes us curious now. If there was no Ji Chang Wook, would this journey have been possible? Ji Chang Wook successfully became one with his character through his passionate acting, such that there is no need for any doubts about him anymore.

Ji Chang Wook, who portrayed the complex inner self and life of Emperor Ta Hwan in the recently concluded MBC drama “Empress Ki”, has been dubbed as the biggest beneficiary and an unexpected star of the show, and has received praise for demonstrating an acting ability that exceeded expectations.

But in reality, Ji Chang Wook did not know if he was even prepared to play Ta Hwan.

“There will never be such an emperor ever again.”  An emperor has everything one can ask for on earth, but will there ever be another emperor like Ta Hwan? His life was a question mark during his time as a prince. In front of El Temur, he fell on his knees begging for mercy; he even demanded for persimmons while being sent to exile. Neither could he shoot arrows properly, such that he had to start learning from the soldier Seung Nyang the right way to handle the bow. The new image of an emperor shown by Ta Hwan received instant reactions from the public after the show went on air.
